    MAN OF THE MATCH?

    Report

There was little to separate West Ham United and Crystal Palace as both sides played out a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.

Mohammed Kudus opened the scoring with his third Premier League goal but Odsonne Edouard levelled the contest after half-time.

    How the match unfolded

It was a stop-start opening to the match in which neither side enjoyed periods of sustained possession, Edouard on the end of the best chance of the opening stages when his acrobatic effort sailed just wide of the post on 10 minutes.

It was West Ham who found the opening goal 13 minutes into the contest. James Ward-Prowse swept a stylish pass out to Vladimir Coufal, whose low cutback was met first time by Kudus, the Ghanaian’s shot nestling in at the near post via a Marc Guehi deflection.

Joachim Andersen came close to equalising for the Eagles when his free-kick was deflected just wide of the West Ham goal much to the relief of Alphonse Areola, who was left stranded.

David Moyes thought his side had doubled their advantage in the early moments of the second half when Kudus’ cross evaded everyone to roll into the far corner, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside after Tomas Soucek attempted to connect with the cross from an offside position.

And Palace made the most of that moment when Edouard capitalised on a loose Konstantinos Mavropanos pass to roll a left-footed effort into the bottom-right corner in the 53rd minute.

The Frenchman’s goal means that West Ham and Palace have both scored in each of their last 13 meetings, second only to the last 15 fixtures between Fulham and Manchester City where both sides have registered a goal.

Mavropanos came close to redeeming himself for the Hammers when he rose highest to meet a cross, his header trickling narrowly wide of a post as the hosts pushed for a late winner.

Jarrod Bowen thought he had won it with just two minutes of stoppage time remaining when he met Pablo Fornals’ cross from close range, only for his low header to be held by Sam Johnstone.

The result leaves West Ham remain in ninth place with 21 points while the result is enough for Roy Hodgson’s side to move above Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham into 12th on 16 points.
